Before You Book

+ Age restrictions — can my kids come?

FISH & SUNSET: Ages 5+

EXPLORE & ADVENTURE: Ages 8+ (open-water snorkeling)

BLANK SPACE: Ages 5+ for fishing/sunset, 8+ for snorkeling; activity-dependent

Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

+ How many people can fit on the boat?

Tours are designed for up to 4 guests. A 5th guest can join upon request (subject to availability). Five is our maximum.

+ What's the boat like? Will I get seasick?

We operate a 2004 Pro-Line 23' Sport with a 250 HP Suzuki engine, indoor head (marine toilet), and shade canopy. It's built for stability and comfort in the Gulf of Papagayo's calm, protected waters. Captain Stephen is joined by a deckhand on all trips except SUNSET.

Seasickness is rare in our calm bays and reefs, but we recommend taking motion-sickness medication if you're prone to it. Ginger tablets and wristbands are also available at most local pharmacies.

+ What should I bring?

Essentials: Sunscreen (reef-safe), hat, sunglasses, light layers for wind, and a towel.

Optional: Camera, underwater camera/GoPro, medications (motion sickness, allergy), prescription glasses strap, reef shoes.

Don't bring: Glass bottles, heavy valuables, or non-reef-safe sunscreen.

We provide snorkel gear, life jackets, and all fishing equipment.

+ What's your cancellation policy due to weather?

Safety is our priority. If conditions are unsafe, we will contact you 24 hours before your tour to reschedule or offer a full refund. Costa Rica's Gulf of Papagayo is calm year-round, but strong swells or storms require postponement.

+ Do I need to be an experienced fisherman?

No! Captain Stephen handles all the technical fishing. He'll teach you how to cast, reel, and fight the fish. Beginners are always welcome.

+ Can I bring my own alcohol?

For SUNSET and ADVENTURE tours, we provide wine or champagne. You're welcome to bring additional beverages (no glass bottles—use cans or reusable containers). For everyone's safety, alcohol service is at the captain's discretion.

Logistics

+ Where do we board the boat?

We depart from the beach at Playas del Coco — guests wade a short distance through shallow water to reach the boat, which is standard for local charters. Wear water-friendly footwear for boarding.

Marina pickup from Flamingo or Papagayo is available on request. If you have mobility concerns or prefer to board from a dock, contact us when booking and we'll arrange it.

We can accommodate guests from most nearby hotels. Contact us for details on your specific location.

+ How far offshore do we go?

Tours stay within the calm, protected waters of the Gulf of Papagayo and Culebra Bay. The farthest we venture is about 10–15 minutes by boat from shore—still well within sight of land.

+ What's gratuity or tipping?

Gratuities are entirely optional and appreciated. Tips are typically 10–20% and should be given directly in cash (USD or Costa Rican colones). We don't accept card or app-based tips.

+ Do you offer any special services (weddings, proposals, corporate events)?

Yes! We love hosting special occasions. Email us or message WhatsApp (+506 8693 8422) with your vision and we'll customize something memorable.

+ What languages does the captain speak?

Tours can be conducted in English or Spanish. Captain Stephen is fluent in both—Spanish is his native language—and he's learning French.

+ Is there internet access on the boat?

Yes — we have Starlink satellite internet on board. Coverage is generally good throughout the Gulf of Papagayo, though speeds may vary in more remote areas. Stay connected, share your trip in real time, or just enjoy being offline — it's up to you.

Safety & Certification

+ Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Our boat is fully licensed, registered with Costa Rica's INCOPESCA (fishing authority), and fully insured. Captain Stephen holds a valid license and has extensive local knowledge and experience.

+ Will there be life jackets?

Yes, life jackets are provided and available at all times.

+ What if I have a medical emergency?

We're never far from shore. The boat has a radio, cell phone, and first-aid kit. Playas del Coco has a clinic and hospital nearby. We strongly recommend travel/emergency insurance.

+ Do you practice sustainable/eco-friendly boating?

Yes. We use reef-safe sunscreen, leave no trace, and respect local marine life. Fishing tours follow catch-and-release practices and local regulations. We take pride in preserving the Gulf of Papagayo.
